Kia first introduced its Qi wireless charging feature on the Kia Optima in 2016 in the form of a charging tray located in the centre console. Since then they have rolled this out as either optional or standard equipment on the Forte, Sportage, Niro, Picanto, Stinger and Sorento ranges. In the 2019 Kia Forte, the optional Qi wireless charging pad is situated on a dedicated shelf in the centre stack.

- Samsung Kies is the official tool from Samsung for Android devices. It lets you synchronize your phone’s data with the PC along with music and videos. In order to synchronize and manage data, you need a USB cable to connect to Kies. Once the device is connected, the application automatically notifies you of firmware updates.
- Samsung SDI’s flagship battery solution is expected to be used in Hyundai’s electric cars. Hyundai will use Samsung’s batteries in Genesis’ fully electric car and Kia’s plug-in hybrid vehicle. The Genesis G80’s electric version, which will be launched in 2021, will use the South Korean tech firm’s batteries.
HOW TO USE WIRELESS CHARGING IN YOUR KIA
Utilizing Kia’s Wireless Charging feature is fairly simple. Start with turning the system on using the on/off button with the Qi charging symbol. Once you’ve removed all objects from the tray, place your mobile device face up on the Qi symbol molded into it. You might have to move the phone slightly until the amber light just below the Qi button illuminates, indicating the device is properly positioned and charging.
iPHONE WIRELESS CHARGING IN YOUR KIA - COMPATIBILITY
The charger is compatible with the universal Qi standard. All Qi-enabled smartphones including the iPhone 8 and iPhone X can be charged directly from the charging mat, including larger phablet size devices like the Samsung S8 Plus.
Apple iPhone models prior to the iPhone 8 will need a wireless charging accessory like the Aircharge ‘Made for iPhone’ Wireless Charging Case to enable the device to work with Qi chargers.

In most of the cases, connecting the Android phone to a new Kia model that supports Android Auto fails either with no error or with a generic connection problem message on the screen.
For some users, the bug first showed up last year, but judging from posts in this thread on Google’s Android Auto forums, it’s still experienced these days as there’s no official fix just yet.
“I just recently started having this same problem in my Kia Sorento (also a 2019). I thought there was something wrong with my cable, but even with a new one the screen will say it's connecting but then it won't. I uninstalled/reinstalled the app in my phone, tried different cables. But the app is grayed out on the car's screen. Not sure why it isn't working all of a sudden,” one Kia owner explains.
Some claim they’ve been able to connect their phones to Android Auto in a Kia car after downgrading to an older version of the app – indeed, installing an older version of Android Auto could sometime fix such issues, albeit not running the most recent update could mean you’re missing on the latest new features.
Google is yet to acknowledge the problem, and for the time being, it’s still not clear why Kia car models are the ones most often affected by this connection error – as a matter of fact, I’m seeing similar reports from owners of other car brands, but it appears the issue is more widespread on Kia.
A new Android Auto version is expected later this month, but it’s not yet known if a fix for this problem is included or not.
